Torico’s Chocolate Peanut Butter Milk Shake

May 30th, 2008

A sticker after my own heart…

Last night after filling my stomach with delicious steak tacos (at Taqueria Downtown in Jersey City, NJ – mmmm) me and The Official Chocolate Peanut Butter Gallery Taste Tester Extraordinaire stopped by Torico’s Premium Homemade Ice Cream Parlor, which sells – you guessed it – premium homemade ice cream.

We ordered a Chocolate Peanut Butter Milk Shake (of course). I thought the shake was quite tasty but my opinion seems almost irrelevant next to Mr. Taste Tester. Milk shakes are his choice dessert like 50% of the time, while I rarely get them. They’re tasty, just a bit too heavy a dessert for me after I’ve just polished off a whole meal.

Unfortunately he did not feel quite as fondly as I did about this particular shake. He didn’t think the peanut butter ribbons that were in the ice cream were salty enough and suspected they used 2% milk instead of whole when making the shake. I however, generally prefer 2% milk and appreciated that it didn’t give you that brick-in-the-stomach feeling that heavier shakes would. But since the taste tester is used to crazy thick Cold Stone shakes, he was a little unsatisfied.

Still, I’d like to go back and try the chocolate peanut butter ice cream in it’s “natural state” (un milk-shake-ified) to give the ice cream itself a fair taste. I really liked that it wasn’t just a blended chocolate peanut butter flavor and actually had ribbons of peanut butter (salty or not) throughout.

Thanks to my c&pb addiction, it was easy to choose a flavor, but I might have been a little lost otherwise. Torico has TONS of different varieties including some very interesting ones. The following interesting flavors are from their menu (they do have many other, more usual flavors incase this scares you)…

Ice Cream:
Bubble Gum
Green Tea
Jackfruit (I don’t even know what that is!)
Ube (huh?)

Soft Serve:

Italian Ice:
Mint Julep

So if you’re in JC anytime soon, swing by Torico because not only do they have chocolate peanut butter ice cream, they also have vanilla peanut butter ice cream!

And hey, if you can’t get to Jersey City, get out there and find the nearest homemade ice cream shop near you. It’s fun (and delicious) supporting the mom and pop shops out there.

  • Oh, it can be fun to have a job where you get to take a little time out of the day and make internet friends.

Anyhow, I used to work at the ice cream chain Emack & Bolio’s. They had the BEST Choco&PB ice cream, it was like 60% PB. Mmm. I put on 10 lbs working there.

  • Bubble gum and avocado? Crazy! I’d like to get my hands on some of that amaretto though.
